Stress is a longtime nemesis for employees and employers. Our stress is magnified by our jobs, our family, our financial situation, and others with whom we interact. Dealing with stress can lead to poor performance at work, physical symptoms including headaches, and even substance abuse. We've shared a few tips for how to manage this stress below.
- Find a Friend
Having a work friend you can rely on is a monumental help. Being able to message a friend about a difficult day will help the stress roll of your shoulders. In addition to sharing frustrations, you can also share your stellar wins. Did you sell a hard-fought customer? How about someone who verbally thanked you for your kindness? Your friends will love to share in the wins, big or small.
- Take a real break
Being away from your desk doesn’t necessarily mean you are recharging your batteries. Most of the time we resort to staring at our phones scrolling through the abyss of social media for the entire time we have away from our computers. This doesn’t allow for our brains to completely recover. If you have an approved break time, try going for a short walk outside, sitting quietly, or concentrating only on your breathing for a few minutes. These activities will help to calm the tension in your body, and a real break from screen time will allow you to decompress. Make sure to take moments away for yourself; even a short time away from stressors will prove beneficial. To help with work related stress, Recovr's Weighted Blanket is great to have with you in your office or at your desk. It is designed to distribute deep pressure stimulation throughout your body simulating the calming effects of a hug. There are many things you can do with the Weighted Blanket by Recovr to help manage stress at work. You can set it in your lap as you work allowing the weight to create a sense of compression on your legs which will improve overall circulation. You can drape it over your shoulders to help ground you in times of anxiety. The applications are various. If you don't have your Recovr Blanket yet, get it now so you can manage your stress and anxiety that much better.
- Make Time
Your health directly impacts your happiness and your work. Sometimes making your health a priority in your busy day is difficult. In order to make sure it happens, schedule it! Set an alarm in your phone, put it in your calendar, or have a friend or co-worker keep you accountable. Whether that is going on a walk, signing up for a fitness class, meditating, etc. Whatever it is, make the commitment and stick to it!
We actively encourage you to do these things to manage your everyday stress so that you can perform at a high level throughout the day. If you ever need a friend to talk to, know that your managers and co-workers are there to help. We care about your health and we want you to make it a priority as well.
